How Can I Save Money on My Insurance?
One of the things Michigan Insurance Group loves doing is helping clients save money. To give you an idea of how we help you cut down insurance costs for clients we compiled a list of 15 ways to save money on your insurance:
1. Bundle your home and auto insurance
When your home and auto insurance are with one carrier it’s
more than just convenient, it saves you money.
2. Sign up for paperless billing.
Receiving bills via email could save you time and a few
dollars a month.
3. Opt in for EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
Some of our carriers offer a 7-14% discount if you sign up
for automatic payments from your account.
4. Pay in Full
Not everyone’s budget can allow for this, but if you save
money through the year and can make it happen, you can cut your insurance cost
almost in half. Plus, wouldn’t it be great to not have to worry about paying
insurance every month?
5. Own your home
Homeownership has many perks. One advantage of owning a home
is that you get a discount on your auto insurance.
6. Get Renter’s Insurance
Some of our carriers give you a discount on your auto
insurance if you have renter’s insurance as well. In our experience we’ve seen
the auto insurance discounted as much as the cost of renter’s insurance. One
might say it pays for itself.
7. Tell your agent about home improvements
Home improvements such as updates to your roof, electric,
plumbing and HVAC can lower your home insurance premium.
8. Request a quote early
Requesting a quote in advance, and possibly paying for your
insurance before you need it, could save you money.
9. Combine your auto insurance policies
If you’re married it’s time to look at combining your auto
insurance policies. You might qualify for a multi-car discount.
10. Strive to be a safe driver
It’s common knowledge that violations on your driving record
will cause your insurance costs to climb but did you know that if you have zero
violations, for example no tickets or accidents for 3- 5 years, you could
receive a safe driving discount? Ask an agent about this!
11. Be claims free
Now that we’re on the topic of being a safe driver it’s a good
time to mention the claims free discount. If you haven’t filed any claims for 3-5
years you could receive a discount. Being a good driver really does pay off.
12. Encourage your kids to get good grades.
When they do, don’t just tell your friends and family, tell
your agent too because it could save you money on your auto insurance with the Good
Student Discount.
13. Brag about your college education
In this case we don’t mind if you brag, especially if it
helps you save money on your insurance. The degree you worked so hard to get looks
good to more than just recruiters. Insurance companies like them too.
14. Keep that policy going!
Continuous insurance can save you anywhere from 1-15%. Although
that might not seem like much money, it’s better than the price you could pay
if you have been uninsured.
15. Do the research
There’s always more information on other types of policies.
For example, if you own a motorcycle check out 8 Motorcycle Discounts You Needto Know for ways to save on motorcycle insurance.
