5 Tips to Save Energy

spring cleaning, save energy, tips to save energy

Spring is 17 days away! As the snow starts melting we will emerge from the season of cold and snow. There is a lot to get done; lawn work, spring cleaning, etc. As you are writing your Spring to do list remember these five energy saving tips:

1. Turn it down. Every degree you dial down your heat could save you 1-3% on your heating costs.

2. Furnace tune-up. Your furnace worked extra hard to heat your home through the winter. With warmer weather ahead it is a great time to do a little tune up and clean/replace your filter.

3. DIY energy audit. Walk through your home/business and see if you are heating or lighting spaces that are not used frequently. Close vents and unplug unused devices.

4. Install a programmable thermostat. Installing a thermostat that lets you program times and temperatures can save you as much as 20% on heating costs.

5. Access the WWW. Log on to your energy company's website to see if they have a free online energy evaluation tool. Some companies such as Consumer's Energy and local companies such as Grand Haven Board of Light and Power have more tools to assist you in determining how and where you can start saving energy and money.

With these changes you will not only be saving energy but could be saving money too.
